My Approach

I’m a therapist and educator. A trauma informed practitioner who works in a relational way. I’m experienced and qualified to work with people who may have experienced difficulties in childhood, domestic violence, sexual abuse and a range of life events that leave us feeling disconnected or unable to cope well. Our relationship is the place where healing can begin.

I have a special interest in working with Boarding School survivors to explore how your school experience may have impacted you.
I work collaboratively with clients to establish goals and areas of your life you want to focus on and together we can work towards new ways of being. I care very much about your early life experiences and making sense of these formative relationships and events that can impact later in life.

I work with compassion, care – and often humour – and combine the empathy of humanistic person centred therapy with the depth of psychodynamic and systemic approaches to uncover often unconscious ways of being. This can result in a greater sense of self empowerment that allows you to move forward with self compassion and understanding.

We are so often ‘in our heads’ and I aim to integrate and connect mind and body using mindfulness, body work and psycho-education to support your deeper understanding and connection to yourself.

Qualifications and Experience and areas of interest

I have an MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling from the University of Leeds, and work in private practice Monday to Wednesday.
I am also a Tutor at the University of Leeds on the MA Psychotherapy and Counselling programme which keeps me at the forefront of research and innovation in the field of psychotherapy and counselling.

Before becoming a therapist I worked in senior management in the cut and thrust world of commercial environments and understand well the pressure and strains which can occur in the workplace. I have spent periods of time working abroad and several years in a secondary school as a pastoral lead.

I have undertaken research and training in the role of trauma on our mind and body and apply this to working with survivors of boarding school and the impact this can have in later life.
